Developing Skills for Blackboard

Peter Rushbrook (Deputy Dean, Learning and Teaching) of the School of Education at Bundoora and Josephine Ng (Program Manager) met with Angela Nicolotteou (Manager of the DSC Digital Learning Team) to discuss how Digital Learning DSC can assist and support the academic staff in the Graduate Diploma in Education (Early Childhood) with the re-design, implementation and use of Blackboard for the delivery of their online courses.  The program is offered over a year full-time and has three modes of delivery: fully online, face-to-face, and as an intensive on Saturdays.

Cathy Leahy and I (Zaina Nehme) have been assigned to lead this project.  We recently met in order to unpack our understanding of the project but more importantly to learn about the program itself (structure, number of courses, duration and learning objectives).  We also used this space to look into the Blackboard shells for each of the courses to gain insight on how the teaching staff has been using Blackboard.

While talking to Josephine it became clear that the level of support and assistance that the teaching staff are seeking is rather broad and is likely to entail a more organised approach; this is due to the fact that every teacher has particular needs.  So, at this point in time it looks like we will make a start by providing support in the areas specified below.  It is however anticipated that more areas will be added as a face to face meeting is scheduled at Bundoora.
